In the beginning of Winter, I was hooked on Jack Black lip balm. I thought it was everything I needed to keep my lips looking healthy and it was, for a while, but as we headed into the “peak” of Winter, it just wasn’t enough anymore. It still prevents my lips from chapping but it doesn’t provide enough moisture to keep up with the extreme cold and dryness. If you are experiencing the same problem, you are in luck because today I have just the one product to recommend to you — Bite Agave Lip Mask! This is the product that ends all my dry lips woes, and I can’t wait to share my review with you. So, let’s get right to it!

Bite Agave Lip Mask is hands down the best Winter lip balm I’ve ever used. But if there is one thing I’m not completely happy about is the packaging! It’s a metal tube, much like old-fashioned toothpaste tube, that is hard to squeeze. You will literally need the Hulk’s strength to get the product out! OK, I’m exaggerating here but I just do not understand why it has to be this difficult, lol! The worst fear I have right now is that, upon continued use, the tube may show some sign of wear. I don’t mind that the tube doesn’t look pretty anymore once you squeeze it, but I fear that it will “rip” and “leak” over time.
The good thing is you only need just a tiny bit of the product for each use so you don’t have to squeeze too much, and I find that when you open the cap for the first few times, the product, being dense and thick, sort of oozes out by its own (see photo below). It has a yellowish texture that smells like sweet honey with a hint of vanilla. It’s a pleasant smell and isn’t overpowering at all.

Besides the packaging, there is another thing to take into consideration. The main ingredient of Bite Agave Lip Mask is medical grade Lanolin. Lanolin is a viscous, greasy substance found naturally on sheep’s wool. Some people find it gross. I personally don’t mind it.
It is free of gluten and petroleum, and contains organic agave nectar and “triple the amount of antioxidant trans-resveratrol found in red wine“. Sounds good but I’m not really sure if they meant for the whole tube? Or per “serving size”?

As I mentioned before, this product is thick. It’s the thickest lip balm I’ve ever used. It is much thicker than Vaseline but not as emollient and less greasy. I find the thick texture to effectively locks in moisture by creating a transparent film on my lips and preventing the moisture from seeping out.
You only need a teeny tiny amount of product to cover the entire lips. It surprisingly spreads really well and does not tug at all. At first I was expecting a heavy feeling but it is actually as light and comfortable as any good lip balm. It stays put and doesn’t seem to transfer easily.
The finish is extremely shiny! If this is a no-no for you, just blot off the excess oil. I actually like it because I can use it instead of a lip gloss to provide a long-lasting glossy finish to my lipstick! Unlike lip gloss, it doesn’t wear off easily and seems to withstand dry weather really well.
My usage suggestion is to coat your lips with multiple layers before bed every night and wear it during the day, too, if possible, for the first week. Use a little more than necessary to quickly bring your dry lips back to their normal state and from then on, you can adjust the amount accordingly to your need. I immediately saw an improvement in the condition of my lips after the first night and have continued to see great results since. My lips have improved so much — they look healthy and nourished and don’t feel dry any more even when I don’t have the mask on.
I’ve also been using it as a lip primer since it seems to help fill in fine lines and makes my lips look plump. It makes my lip color application so much smoother and it’s been such a joy to use a matte lipstick without it clinging on to dry patches! It doesn’t tweak the color or texture of the lipstick in any way as long as you blot dry first.

The packaging is a con (although you can transfer it to a different container) and Lanolin may put off some, but if you can get past these two facts, I promise you that Bite Agave Lip Mask is the product that will literally save your lips. I wish I were exaggerating when I said it’s the product that ended all my dry lips woes but it really did.
I can’t wait for you to try it and if you have, I’d really love to hear your experience! :)
Such a great review, Jaa, thanks for this!! I can’t wait to purchase this once Sephora has its Chic Week sale! My lips tend to be so dry so I can’t wait to try this out for myself.
You’re welcome, Carolyn! I seriously cannot wait for the sale!! I have way too many things I want to buy! :D Do you know when it will be?
Hi Jaa! I heard on one of the beauty boards (I think Specktra) that it would start at the end of March (March 31) but I’m not sure about that since I haven’t seen any official confirmation yet! I can’t wait for the sale!!! :)
I’ve been using pure lanolin (the number one ingredient in this product) for my lips this winter on the recommendation of a commenter on another beauty blog. It is wonderful and the best lip balm/moisturizer I’ve found yet. I use Lansinoh brand. I do notice that lanolin is a lot softer and easier to squeeze when it warms up a bit.
I’ll have to check it out. Thank you for the recommendation, Nicole! I think that may explain why it spreads better once it’s on the skin/lips!
I can’t wait for the Winter to just be over already! It’s nice and warm today at 40F (sarcasm, lol!) but I hear the snow storm is coming tonight and we might get another hit of 5 inches of snow! GAAAAH!!! LOL.
YEP! I am IN! I added this to my wish list as soon as you mentioned it the other day, and now I’m even more ready to pick it up after this awesome review. I’m going to Sephora this Saturday for phase 1 of my bachelorette party (YAY!) and this will be #1 on my list! I’ve had the same issues you have with the dry winter weather being too much for my usual balm suspects to handle. This lip mask sounds like just the ticket! ❤
Yay! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts once you try it, Kristen!
Bachelorette partyyyyyy!!! I want to join youuuuu!! LOL. I’ve never been to ANY bachelorette party. I’ve seen it but never been a part of it. *sad face* Haha. Please take lots of photos and show us!!! :D
One thing, “phase 1”? How many phases will there be?! Is it just going to get crazier and crazier as the wedding day nears? 8-O
I would love for you to join me! Although I do think they’d never get us out of Sephora together, LOL! There will be 2 phases: 1. shopping at Sephora and phase 2 will be dinner and then we’re going out to a place that does karaoke backed by a live rock band. I’ve been many times and it is so much fun, regardless of whether you sing or just watch others! :D And yes, girl, things are still getting crazier and crazier! 47 days to go and lots to check off the list!
Maybe I’ll get this instead of replacing my By Terry baume!
I’d totally buy By Terry baume just for the pretty packaging alone! :D Did you like it?
Everyone’s been raving about this, but I tried it a few months ago and had to return it. I have really sensitive lips, and I must’ve been allergic to something in it because it made my lips peel like crazy! I really, really wanted to like it though.
I’m sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to it, Amanda! Were you able to find anything else that works better on your sensitive lips?
Your tube looks nice – mine is horrendous. I tried rolling up the bottom of the packaging so it isn’t quite as hard to squeeze every time, and it seems to help.
Oh mine looks nice because I took the photo right out of the box. :D It doesn’t look anything like this now. I’m trying to roll up from the bottom as well and you’re right, it does seem to help.
Thanks for stopping by, Joyce! :D
