Hello everyone! Sorry I’ve been MIA the last couple of weeks but life took an unexpected turn. In addition to my main job, I’ve also been doing freelance translation jobs on the side, and on top of that, taking a daily Chinese class which is very, very hard!! 汉语很难! Priorities get shifted and unfortunately, blogging is at the very bottom on my list right now. I hope to get better at time management soon though because I miss this space and talking and sharing about makeup with you! :)
The item featured in today’s post is none other than the already cult-favorite, holiday-exclusive Best Bite Rewind Lip Crayon Set from Bite Beauty. I didn’t originally plan on getting it but the pressure from the beauty community (and blog reviews) was too much I could not resist! I know there are so many reviews out there already but another positive thought wouldn’t hurt right? ;) Without further ado, let’s get on to it!

Bite Beauty Best Bite Rewind is a set of four assorted travel-sized Bite Beauty Matte Crème Lip Crayons housed in a repurposable festive red metal tin that has a full-sized, built-in mirror for convenient touch-ups. The set is currently Sephora- and holiday-exclusive. The crayons are in Bite Beauty’s signature grey rubberized material with the shade name in small print at the bottom. It is impossible to distinguish one color from another from the crayon itself unless you either look for the shade name at the bottom or uncap the crayon. I wish it had a color-coded ring of some sort to make spotting the shade less troublesome.
These are twist-up, retractable lip crayons with a super pointed tip making it easy to line the lips with precision although you’ll likely dull the tip by the third or fourth use. The crayon is unsharpenable and does not come with a sharpener.

I think the colors included in the set are well-thought-out. There is a nude pink for smokey eyes, a muted pink for everyday wear, a raspberry red for a party/night out, and a berry-plum appropriate for Fall. They are all truly wearable colors and from what I see should be flattering on many skin tones. All of them have the same fairly mild scent of vanilla citrus that vanishes quickly upon application.
The formula overall is wonderful as you’d expect from a company specialized only in lip products! They are richly pigmented, smooth, creamy, and comfortable to wear. They are not exactly matte like the name suggests because they have a bit of a satiny shine to the finish. Those who fear of their lips looking dry and cracked, fear not! From my experience, Bite Beauty’s Matte Crème Lip Crayons are quite hydrating and nourishing to the lips!
As always, all Bite Beauty lip products are made entirely of food-grade ingredients with the main key ingredient being resveratrol — a powerful antioxidant found naturally in red wine.

The colors included are Café, Torte, Coulis, and Aubergine as seen below. I’ll go into details of each color down below! :)

Café

Café is described as a peachy-brown nude but it leans heavily pink-nude on me. I need to pair it with a dark smokey eye or I’d look washed out. I guess it will look more lovely on those with fair skin. The texture is creamy, smooth, and almost opaque in one pass but it tends to fall into lip lines and make my lips appear drier and more texturized than they actually are. Applying it over a lip liner/primer and topping with a clear gloss does make the application look a hundred times better! :)
Torte

Yes, you guessed it! Torte is my favorite of the bunch! :) The brown-toned rose description is spot on. I love that it’s not too bright or too dark and is very close to my natural lip color. Truly an everyday shade that you can wear anytime and will complement probably any eye makeup look. The texture is lovely — soft, creamy, buttery smooth. It applies evenly and nearly opaque in one layer and is buildable for a fuller coverage. This color makes my lips look very smooth and healthy!
Coulis

It wouldn’t be called a holiday set without a festive red! Coulis is described as a raspberry red. I love they way it brightens up my complexion so beautifully and instantly! It seems to make my lips appear fuller and thicker as well. Consistency-wise, it’s smooth and highly saturated. It has just a tiny bit more slip than the other shades but still applies fairly easily and evenly. Once the tip becomes dull, though, you’ll probably need to line your lips with a lip liner first. This color does leave a bit of a stain behind so any mistake should be avoided when possible!
Aubergine

Though described as an eggplant color, Aubergine is actually a berry-plum on me. It’s a gorgeous color but I was hoping for a more purple/vampy tone. I have to admit that I’m a bit disappointed with the berry tone strongly present in this shade. The formula is slightly thinner and sheerer than Coulis but can still be built to full coverage. It is creamy but has some slip to it so you’ll need to be a bit more precise during application. Aubergine also leaves a soft stain behind.

I don’t find any of these colors particularly long-lasting. They are just about average. Café lasts the shortest at about 2-3 hours while the rest 3-4 hours. None of the colors feathers but they do transfer due to the creaminess of the consistency. Café, Torte, and Coulis are new and exclusive shades whereas Aubergine is permanent and can be purchased individually. For the price, I think this is a great starter set for those who are new to Bite Beauty. It would also make a cute gift or stocking stuffer for the holiday season! :)
My good blogger friend Erin also has a nice review on this set here!
Hope you liked my post today. 再见 and hopefully see you again very soon! ^_^ (I have faith that one day I’ll be able to write the whole sentence in Chinese. :D)
I bought this but I haven’t opened it yet (oops). Thank you for your review! All of the colours look great on you. I’m hoping Aubergine looks more berry than purple on me though, I think I prefer warmer colours and I’m obsessed with berry this fall!
Oh you’ll probably love it then! Did you ever pick up the Mauvember lipstick that’s Canada-exclusive? I really, really, really want that one! So, so, so pretty! :)
Coulis is giving me heart-eyed emojis! But I must resist getting another red lipstick, I already have way too many of them…
And it sounds like you really have a lot going on there!

Haha yeah you do own quite a few red lippies! I went through my stash the other week and just realized that I don’t have that many red lipsticks! Most of them are nudes, pinks, and corals! :)
Jaa,
Thanks for the shout out! I always find it interesting to see how we square off on things!
I wonder what makes these last so well on me. I don’t speak much during the day, I drink out a water bottle mostly, and I rarely snack. I also tend to have drier lips and I apply them to bare lips. I also do like a “skim coat” and then a really built up coat.
As for the tip, mine are still going strong but I only use the tip for the cupids bow and I let my application sharpen it for me by using the sides of the pencil at an angle on the lips that keeps the tip reasonably sharp. This requires more time and a mirror though.
As for the colors, I think Torte and Coulis pull more warm on me. I find similar issues with Cafe. Aubergine being slightly more sheer and glossy pulls a hint darker and more purple on me but that’s a combination of skin tone and lip color. I do notice it’s a bit more berry if I wear a warm blush shade and a warmer eye color.
Chinese is a tough language, don’t get too down about it. My husband studied it for 6 months and I wasn’t able to help him too much but I pick out some words now when I hear it. I only really quizzed him a few times and the writing is something I’m not sure I could pick up without much study! All I know how to say is: Hello, Please, Thank You, Shit, and White Devil. I only know how to say white devil as an insult because of a Chinese friend who used to call me that in a loving way back in the day. She’s a bit older than I am but I guess it’s a pretty big insult/racial slur from her generation.
I am able to recognize a few Chinese characters now but to write them is still a work in progress! I’m glad I’m having fun learning it, though. It’s a tough language and if your heart’s not in it, you’re not going to progress very far. Can your husband speak Chinese?
Thanks for the tips on extending the wear time of these lippies! I’ll try them! :)
Wow, you’ve got a lot going on this month. Sorry to hear that you are feeling stressed. All four of these colors look beautiful on you, but especially that red color Coulis. Wow wow so beautiful it will be hard to resist ;-)
Good thing I really enjoy learning Chinese! I thought I wasn’t gonna but it’s actually a really fun language. Yeah super hard but also fun. :)
TORTE!! That one will get a lot of use from me. Too bad there isn’t Bite Beauty here. I hope Sephora will carry it one day.
Same here. Please come to Asia soon, Bite Beauty!!
They look so special, but I don’t thing the colors are interesting enough for me. I’d never heard of Bite Beauty yet, but I must look into it :) Also… good luck with the hard work! I’m sure you’ll do fine with combining the many things you have to do :D get some rest too! x
Oh Natasja, you must look up Bite Beauty lippies! They make one of the best! :) A bit hard to get a hold of, though, but if you can, totally worth it! :)
First time comment, been following your blog for a year, I love your picture.
I love the color on you, especially the Aubergine color. I don’t think I can pull bright color like stunning like you.
As a fellow chinese, I agree it is very hard language to learn, looks like you’re doing pretty good!
Hello Effie! 謝謝 for being a loyal reader! :D Chinese is such a hard language but I enjoy learning it! You should see how happy I am when I can recognize some Chinese characters when I see them! :D
I’m such a huge fan of Bite! This is a perfect variety of shades- Coulis is calling to me especially. It’s a true stunner :)
They should release more sets like this! :)
