Back in January I picked up this Bite Matte Crème Lip Crayon per Laura‘s recommendation. She praised it, and the fact that we have quite similar taste in makeup, I trusted her and decided to give it a go. I was a little hesitant because the last thing I wanted to wear on my lips in cold weather is matte formula but wow, Bite really knows how to make matte! And I’m talking a good, richly opaque matte that isn’t drying in the slightest! If you are into makeup, you know a good matte like this is not easy to come by! :)
Bite Matte Crème Lip Crayon is a limited edition collection that features 6 bold and beautiful shades of matte formula. I picked up Kumquat, a pink grapefruit color that translates to pretty bright pink on my lips! Some may find it a little too much for daytime wear but when worn sheer, I think it looks utterly gorgeous!
The pencil, or crayon, is a retractable twist-up style that doesn’t require sharpening (yay to no wastage!). The tip is tapered and a little pointy so it is great for lining. To fill in, I flip to the side so that the tip won’t become dull over time. The formula has this really sweet scent with a hint of something lemony (it smells good if you ask me!) and did you know that Bite lipsticks are made from safe and consumable ingredients?! How awesome is that?! Not that you should ever purposely take a bite, but you know, in case it gets in your mouth, you know you are safe. ;)
True to its name, the formula is very creamy and very matte! It feels like velvet gliding across the lips and you practically only need 1, maybe 2, swipes to achieve its full intensity. It’s that pigmented. It leaves a very subtle sheen initially but will dry to a completely matte finish after an hour or so.
It has a lightweight texture that is comfortable to wear. It isn’t drying but it isn’t one to provide a lot of moisture, either. I personally like to apply it over a thin coat of lip balm to provide extra hydration and to smooth down any dry patches. When I applied it for the first time on my bare (and very dry) lips, it terribly clung on to dry patches and settled into lip lines, so for this lip pencil, well exfoliated and moisturized lips are a must.
While the color does not seem to bleed or feather, it does transfer easily! So be watchful when you eat or drink. It does stain the lips, too, which is unexpected, and I’m not complaining because if anything, it helps extend the wear time. I find the staying power to be phenomenal, it just lasts and lasts, even through meals. I can get through my work day and still have about 60-70% of the color left on my lips. And the best part is I don’t even feel the slightest drying feeling — and we are talking matte in Winter here — can’t say the same about my other matte lipsticks!
If you are on a hunt for a high-performance, bright-colored matte lipstick made from natural ingredients, do give Bite Matte Crème Lip Crayon a try! I am looking at Satsuma and Grape for my next purchase but maybe I’ll wait for the Sephora VIB sale to score them. Besides this lip pencil, I also purchased the Agave Lip Mask and I’ve gotta tell you, it has been my lips saver this Winter! I can’t wait to tell you all about it, so stay tuned for the review! :)
