Review & Usage

MAC 138 is made of natural fibres and the softest MAC brush I own. What I love about it is its versatility — you can use it to contour, highlight, and set.

To contour, place the brush horizontally along the hollows of your cheeks and lightly sweep the contouring powder. Since the bristles are soft, this brush will give you a blended out contouring effect as opposed to a well-defined, sculpted cheek look.

To highlight, lightly pick up a highlighting powder with the slanted tip and apply above the cheekbones. The size of the tapered tip fits the small area perfectly!

To set, pick up the powder as you would normally with your powder brush. The great thing about a brush this size with fluffy bristles is it fans out perfectly to disperse the powder all over the face in just a few quick swipes!

I sometimes use the very pointed tip to set my under eye concealer, too! And you can also use 138 to apply blush (especially ones that are pigmented) for a subtle cheek color. :)

I have not experienced any shedding so far (I’ve been using it well over 2 years now). I did not recall any “bleeding” during its initial wash either. (And the bristles do not smell!)

Footnote

If you are not ready to invest in multiple face brushes, start with 138. It’s like having a contour brush, blush brush, highlight brush, and powder brush rolled up into one — a true multipurpose piece! Perfect for travel, too, since you don’t have to bring so many different brushes. :)

So, what do you think of this Brush Thursday series? Do you like it? Please let me know in the comments whether I should continue next week, or if you have any suggestion at all. :D

Hey Jaa, I vote yes to starting this series!

I don’t own many MAC face brushes. The only one I have is 168. This sounds super versatile! I’ll take a look next time I’m in a MAC store :)

      Thank you, Sunny! <3

I am a true brush fanatic and the size of my collection is something you'd call "unhealthy"! Might as well review them at least! :D

168 is an AWESOME brush! So awesome that I own 2!! Haha! Perfect size and softness and very versatile as well.

Awesome series! Especially for the brush-challenged like me ;-)

This sounds like a really useful one! I think big fluffy brushes are my favourite ‘genre’ of brush anyway :-P

Hi Divya, I think Sigma F25 is a dupe for MAC 138. :)

I don’t have it so I can’t compare them side by side for you but juding from the picture on Sigma website, the shape of the brush is very similar.

Please continue this series , i like it .

i don’t own any Mac brush but i love the tapered shape that make it’s versatile .
i own Yachiyo brush from Nars that have the same but smaller shape and work very well even though it’s not super soft i use it for powder , hilight and contour the same .

i think i should check this 138 out

Yay! Another like, then I shall continue! ;D

I don’t have any face brush from Nars. If you already found something that you love and works great, then there’s no need for another (unless you are a brush fanatic like me lol!).
