Review & Usage
Real Techniques Setting Brush is one of the brushes that I use on a daily basis. The ultra-plush bristles are made from Taklon — the softest type of synthetic fiber I’ve ever encountered. Now, don’t let its small size fool you, this is yet another true multipurpose brush!
Here are some of the things you can do with the Setting Brush:
- [main usage for me] blend out concealer under the eyes or everywhere else on the face
- apply highlighter above cheekbones
- apply eyeshadow as a wash of color
- contour the sides of the nose
- set makeup with powder
What I love so much about this brush is its softness. It feels like a feather on the skin and it blends whatever product you are applying like a pro; be it cream or powder. No cakey or heavy finish, just flawless, smoothest result, every time. The tapered shape also allows you to reach the hard-to-reach crevices of the face and/or apply products on targeted areas with precision.
The pink aluminum handle is super lightweight and well-balanced, though it cannot stand on its own like most Real Techniques brushes. It washes well, dries quickly, and retains its domed shape even without the Brush Guard. It doesn’t shed or absorb product like natural hair bristles. I can honestly say that this is one of the greatest, most affordable quality brushes I have ever come across.

Real Technique brushes are so great! I dont have this one but I have the pointed foundation brush which is too small for foundation but perfect for concealing!
I find that one too small for foundation as well! Unless you want to spend a half hour on the foundation step alone haha!
Hey Jaa, this one sounds so multi-functional! Definitely intrigued!
One of my favorite RT brushes! :)
Your photos are incredible, as always. Who knew a Real Techniques brush could look so complex and interesting? I have most of the Real Techniques brushes and love them, although I don’t have this particular one. I really enjoy your blog!
Thank you so much, Nicole! <3 <3 <3
You know I've been taking more than 10,000+ photos for my blog and I'm still amazed every time when I look at a product through my macro lens! All the details and everything that I don't even know exist. Bam, right there, in my face. Haha. Oddly satisfying in fact. :D
I'm glad you've been enjoying my blog. Let me know if you ever have any questions/suggestion! :)
I really like this brush too – I mainly use it for setting undereye powder. Very soft, indeed!
Yay!
I think Sam really knew what she was doing when she created this brush!
Agreed! :)
These are in NZ finally! :-D I’m so glad to read your review of one – I might have to go and investigate things more closely, and see if I can raid some of these brushes…this one sounds wonderful :-) *sharpens daggers*
I hope the mark-ups aren’t too crazy!!!! Let’s hold hands and pray!! LOL!
I really need to find these now that I’m back in the USA!
Check Ulta, Walmart, or Target! :D
