This concealer has been receiving so many rave reviews and I have to say I was initially hesitant to drop a whopping $70 on a simple stick concealer! But boy, was I wrong to call it “simple” when in fact, it was anything but. The correct word would have to be “the magic concealer” or “the best concealer in the whole universe“. Read on to find out how this concealer lived up to the hype. :)
I purchased mine in shade Ocher which is a perfect match for my NC30 skin tone. The concealer comes in a shiny twist-up tube, much like a lipstick. No fancy packaging here but it’s much better and way more convenient than those that come in a pot. This is a full coverage concealer that basically covers everything, be it under eye circles, blemishes, sun spots, freckles, basically any sort of imperfections. All while being extremely lightweight (imagine airy whip feeling!) and is never cakey. It is scent-free and a little goes a really long way.
I don’t have much of a dark circle problem to begin with but on days when I didn’t have enough sleep, this is the first thing I reach for. It brightens up my under eye area so well without accentuating any fine lines or wrinkles. As for other imperfections on the face, I find that it is best applied on well-moisturized skin and the best method of application for me is to apply directly from the stick. I apply the product over the areas that need coverage, then either use a fingertip or small fluffy brush (such as MAC 217 or Real Techniques Setting brush) to blend it out. This concealer works great on its own both under and over foundation or without foundation. It has sort of a silky, powdery finish so you may even get away without setting with a powder. I usually top with a loose setting powder anyway by applying it lightly with a large fluffy brush for the most natural-looking finish. If you choose to use a velour puff to apply your powder, try not to “drag” the puff across your skin. Instead, use a “patting” motion so you don’t move the concealer.
Since it is very opaque, it works great on acne and scars as well. You know when you are experiencing a really bad breakout, the last thing you want to do is cake on more products yet at the same time you want it concealed. Well, this is the product you are looking for. After moisturizing your face, dab this thing on the spot(s), blend it out, and you are done. You probably won’t even need a foundation afterwards. And another great thing is this concealer is there to stay. It lasts throughout the day on me without flaking or creasing.
Using this concealer on sun spots can be tricky, however. I have small sun spots all over my face (more than I can ever count) and while this concealer does a pretty good job at covering them, they still peek through. If this is the case for you, too, I recommend following with a tinted moisturizer or foundation for a complete flawless finish.
Personally I find this to be one of the best worthwhile investments I made on cosmetics. It’s truly a product I reach for most often. I’ve been using it everyday for the last 4-5 months and I hardly makes a dent on the product. Sure there are some other cheaper alternatives that could work just as great but all the time and money spent looking for them, you could have just bought this one and be done with it. The only one thing I see as a disadvantage is shade selection. Clé de Peau currently offers only 4 shades (Beige, Honey, Ivory, and Ocher), while it is lucky for me that Ocher matches my skin tone perfectly, I can’t say for others who may not be able to find their perfect match.
All in all, now I understand why it is such a cult favorite item. I’m glad I decided to take the plunge and I’d do it again when I run out.
