Guerlain Météorite Pearls Illuminating Finishing Powder Review & Swatches

I finally got to try the magical Guerlain Météorites that everyone has been raving about! Thanks to this deluxe sample I received with my recent Sephora order. ^_^

OK, I probably can't comment too much on the packaging since this is a sample. There are only 6 pearls in it, one of each shade. The one I received is in shade Clair 02 which is the lightest option available (and possibly not the correct shade for my skin tone). The other two shades are Medium 03 and Dore 04. Each pearl is supposed to work in harmony to reduce redness and dullness, illuminate complexion, and add subtle luminosity for a healthy and glowy skin.

Each shade of pearls

  • Pink – reveals glow
  • Yellow – anti-dullness
  • Champagne – illuminates
  • White – reflects light (has micro-shimmer in it)
  • Green – anti-redness
  • Purple – catches the light

The powder has this really strong violet scent, signature of Guerlain, that lingers for a while. I find it divine but I can also see it bordering on the overpowering side for some people.

From my research, this is the “reformulated” version of the original, cult-favorite Météorites. Since I don't have the original powders, I cannot comment on the differences between the two. My review will solely be based on the new formula, of 6 pearls. (LOL!) Take it with a grain of salt! :)

First thing I noticed about these pearls is that, they are fragile and crumbly! I remember vaguely the one time I played with the original formula at the counter that they were not this fragile. The new pearls seem to crumble into powder dust very easily so do be gentle with them during use. Due to the softer texture, I would suggest using a soft, fluffy brush since the product seems to get picked up by the brush very well. You don't really need to swirl your brush in the container like you do with the original formula.

At first, I was a little skeptical as to how dusting a thin layer of this all over my face would make a difference (magical or not) to my skin. But after a few uses, I am now a true believer! The change you see is not going to be obvious, but it is enough that you would spot a difference between with and without it.

The key here is the amount applied with the right tool.

On my first use, I over-applied it and with that, I noticed my face looking very “white” and “heavy“. The next day I used less and also switched to a softer and less dense brush. And that did it! It is true when they say that these pearls will transform your skin to a better and smoother version of itself.

Complexion appears brighter and illuminated, imperfections are visibly blurred out — I'm sold.

My other suggestion would be to use this as a finishing powder only. It's supposed to be used in the final step of your makeup to breathe life back to your complexion, especially if you use mattifying products underneath. :)

Do you use any type of illuminating powder? Are you a fan of the Météorite Pearls?

Ooooooohhhh….. :-D You’re gorgeous to start with, but I really do see what you mean about the illumination and pores! Also, that little sample is possibly the cutest thing EVER. I wish we got samples here!

I have the bigger version of it when I bought the Sephora Guerlain Precious Lights Radiance Essentials Kit! I really like it and I use it only for special occasions hehe.

The smell at first was overwhelming but then I got used to it. Feels super luxurious!!! Like Chanel’s or YSL’s products hehe.

Hey Grace! I am actually thinking of doing a comparison post between the two so if you can wait a little bit I will have the answer for you. :)

Oh wow for once I can see some difference in the before and after pics! You pictures make those tiny balls look like huge snowballs! I have the wulong pressed powder from a couple of years back and its great!

Hey Jaa, whoa this is SO adorable! All tiny and cuuuute!

I have one edition of these pearls, but I haven’t tried the new formula yet! I did hear they’re more crumbly, but otherwise they perform well. Definitely use a soft powder brush with these. I think it’s amazing how a little bit of it can add so much to the finished look!

I was surprised to see a difference at all in the photo! I thought for sure people are not going to be able to see it. :D

Come to think of it, a softer formula can be a good thing because you aren’t likely to ruin your brush from swirling in the container! I bet that’s why their Météorite brush is a little coarse and scratchy, so that you can pick up the product more easily!

      1. says: Sunny

It’s either that or just the quality of brush hair LOL

I use my LMdB Powder Brush with the pearls. It’s super soft but picks up product all right ;)

Ohhh I want these sooo bad… i’ve been doubting for almost a year, searching for reviews to see if it’s really worth the money… but now i think i’m gonna get my own :D
Thank you so much for the review Jaa!

I just bought them… along with the lipstick Rouge G Girly! Hate the pricetag (could have sworn i heard my wallet cry) but love for the package and the products ♡

Oh NICE!!!! I really, really want to try the Rouge G! I’ve been wanting it for so long. I think I’m just gonna have to get it!

I just recently found out about your blog and I say, I am inlove! <3 Anyway, despite the raves, I'm still not convinced. Jealous about the sample that you got though because at least you would get to try it out first before actually purchasing.

    1. says: Jaa

Totally understandable! I think this is one of those products that you have to try in person. :)

      Thanks for stopping by, Victoria!

Oh, that’s actually a pretty big difference. The only loose finishing powder I have is Armani’s and oddly enough the only compact powder too. I use so little every time I’m never going to run out! When I do though, I may get the Guerlain finally. I’ll probably get this shade too.

  10. I got these as a birthday gift in 2011 (so it was the old formula) and I was not impressed at all! I returned them. I noticed no difference at all in the appearance of my skin and felt like I’d been hocus-pocused by beautiful packaging and hype. I’m glad they’ve been reformulated as I can actually see a difference in your skin in the above pic! Yay!

    1. says: Jaa

I heard that the old formula was a little “firmer”… maybe you didn’t pick up enough product? Just my guess! The new formula doesn’t take much at all to notice the difference!
