Back to MAC is truly a great program that I wish more brands would follow suit. By returning 6 empty MAC containers, you will receive a free lipstick of your choice. A few of my MAC lipsticks were obtained through this program. Just before I left the US, I traded 12 empty containers for 2 lipsticks. I chose Lovelorn and Snob because I’m obviously obsessed with pink lipstick. Today I will be talking about Lovelorn first. Please read on to find out why it has already become one of my favorite MAC pink lipstick colors of all time!
Lovelorn is a permanent color packaged in a typical MAC pearly black lipstick packaging. It has a signature MAC sweet vanilla scent that is subtle and fades quickly. Lovelorn is a cool-toned light to medium, blue-based pink that surprisingly looks very flattering on both cool and warm skin tones. I’m NC30-35 with yellow undertones and Lovelorn doesn’t clash with my complexion or wash me out at all. It is a more mature and subtle type of pink with a youthful and playful side. I think women of all ages will be able to enjoy this shade.
The color payoff is decent and buildable but due to its Lustre formula nature, you’ll hardly ever see it becoming fully opaque regardless of how many layers you put on. Your natural lip color will always shine through, especially if your lips are rather pigmented. The coverage is sheer to medium with a really nice, glossy finish. I absolutely adore both the color and finish of Lovelorn! :)
Lustre formula is extremely easy to apply and comfortable to wear. Its slightly slippery texture allows it to glide on the lips without dragging or pulling while giving lips a moisturizing and pampering sensation. It seems to conceal dry flakes on the lips well but it can noticeably fall into lip lines if overapplied. There is no stickiness or tackiness associated with this color as far as I’m aware.
The sheerness together with a foolproof formula, it’s remarkably easy to get a clean and precise application with Lovelorn. Let’s just say I have never once used a lip brush to apply this color! :)
Though the only thing I wish Lovelorn would have done better is longevity as it doesn’t last longer than a couple of hours before a reapplication is needed. Do consider wearing a lip primer and/or lip liner underneath to help extend the wear time!
Here’s how Lovelorn looks on me:
I applied 3 layers and you can still see just a hint of my natural lip color peeking through. This is why Lovelorn is so wearable and may I say flattering. It leaves a perfect amount of glossy shine that adds youthfulness to the overall look. Sure, it doesn’t have the same strong glossy effect of a true gloss but it comes pretty close! For a nice, everyday pink that doesn’t scream Barbie pink, I highly recommend Lovelorn. If you don’t mind the short wear time that is! :)
On a side note, today marks the first day of watermarking my photos. It pains me to have to “ruin” the photos but I am left with no choice. I can no longer sit and watch people stealing my photos and using them without giving me proper credit, or worse, slapping their own logo on top of my creation. I suppose it’s about time I stopped whining and started protecting what’s mine. I’ll also be watermarking my older photos, too, but it’s going to be a long process since we all know I put up about a thousand product photos per post. ;) Please know that it is with my deepest regret that it comes down to this but I’ll try to be as discreet with my watermark as possible! :)
Isn’t Back To MAC the best? I wish other companies did this too. Lovelorn is such a beautiful pink and it looks great on you! This is a shade I don’t own yet. Although I do have a few similar shades.
Sorry to hear about people stealing your photos. I hate that. I’ve had it happen to me a lot too. But back when I ran a food blog. The funny thing is I don’t even think my food photos were all that great, but they were mine. And I didn’t appreciate people stealing them. I even had a restaurant steal my photo. It’s pretty ballsy of them to slap their own logo on there too. What the heck is up with that?

I actually did! I tried reaching out privately and when I went ignored I blasted them publicly on my blog. I had a lot of time on my hands back then lol. It was horrible because I had literally just visited that restaurant like a few days prior.
Well, your pictures are drop dead gorgeous, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to steal them. It is sad we have to take such measures, but you are absolutely right protecting what is your work. And the watermark is so subtle I didn’t even notice until I read the disclaimer, so I don’t think you´ll “ruin” your pictures.

I love your pictures and it makes me so sad that people are stealing them! Anyone can see the amount of effort and care you put into them. But don’t worry about the watermark – I’ve never seen a more subtle watermark..

Well I have grown to understand this is almost inevitable. I take care of social media engagement for an app nowsdays, and over the weekend my boss found out a competitor has been stealing content from our FB page. There is nothing I can do about them copying my writing almost word for word, but they did steal a photo I took and FB took care of that. My colleagues were more upset than I was, but I’ve had a lot of training (unfortunately!).
So sorry to hear that. Your photos are always stunning and I couldn’t even see your watermark. Mine is pretty front and center. Sadly it’s one of the first pieces of advice someone gave me. Be sure to watermark your photos so no one will steal them. I hadn’t even posted my first review ?
Good for you, Tracy, for taking a preventative measure! Actually my friends told me from the beginning to watermark my photos, too, but I’ve just always been afraid of ruining them. Now I’m actually having fun doing it and wish I had done it a lot sooner! :)

The Lustre formula is indeed very comfortable and easy. But I find that longevity is always an issue with their Lustre range, I think it’s pretty normal anyway! Great that you could pick some lipsticks up with the Back to MAC program! A pink lip really does suit you, unfortunately a pink shade like that makes me look alot younger so I tend to avoid those!
Wait, but I thought looking young was a good thing? :D Yeah, the MAC to Back program is really awesome and I wish they did it here, too!

As for the lipstick, it’s swatches so much lighter than the tube color! I was expecting it to be more impactful.
It might be the super bright studio lighting washing it out, Erin! I still haven’t mastered the settings. LOL.
I was so bummed when someone accidentally threw out some of my Back to MAC empties. :-( Lovelorn is beautiful. That’s so sucky about people stealing your photos. I’ve gotta start watermarking mine in a better way. I had stopped doing it for a while because I found it looked so bad…probably because I just wasn’t tech savy enough to come up with a sleek way to do it like you’ve done. :-)
Omg that’s unacceptable! MAC empties are like treasure! LOL! I switched to a new watermark after this post (you’ve probably seen it by now). I basically just use my logo and make the background transparent. Very easy to do and quick! :)
What a beautiful color! I’m not that familiar with the Lustre finish (I think I had one a while ago but swapped it), it looks really pretty.
I can’t believe people would put their logo on someone else’s pictures… Do you have any legal recourse when that happens? It hasn’t happened to me – not that I know at least – but I’ve always watermarked.
I should have listened to my friends and watermarked my photos from the beginning! Now I really regret not doing it sooner. Yeah, stealing is one thing but stealing and claiming it’s yours? That’s just wrong.
I mean, your pictures are exceptionally great but there is no excuse for stealing! Sadly watermark doesn’t really prevent all that unless you put it big enough to ruin the whole picture or on a very tricky spot. ;-/

Yeah, I think an effective watermark is one that is front, center, and covers most of the picture which unfortunately isn’t going to happen here soon. LOL. At least I’m doing something, though, and that’s a good start! :)
Wow, this color is so much more shear than I expected but still pretty. That sucks that people are stealing your photos, but the watermark is subtle and does not affect the quality.

Love the watermark actually! love how its so widdle:) doesnt take away from the image in any form what soever! Lovelorn reminds me a lot of Syrup…bought that one recently and love it too. I do wish it was a teeny it more pigmented ..just because I have crazy dark lips tho:s

I love the colour on you Jaa! I picked up Hug Me on a recent Back to Mac, same formula, I love it! I do have a soft spot for Lustre formulas, most of my Macs are Lustre. I don’t mind reapplying sheer lipsticks so much, I love how comfortable they are.

Saw the watermarks, Jaa, and I was like, “NOOOO!!!” Although it’s not that bad but i was a little bit distracted. haha! Anyway, it’s a good move since your photos are always a top notch! I see Temptalia’s photos everywhere and the most annoying thing is these creeps use them on eBay. Saw sellers, too, on Instagram and they’re using her photos to sell their products. Sucks, right?
Me I only post pictures with a maximum of 1000 width with a low DPI so they can’t print them in good quality. As if someone will print my pictures? LOLOL.

I’ve seen my photos being used on eBay repeatedly, too, but not as often as Temptalia’s photos for sure. Sorry if it’s a bit distracting but it has to be done or I’ll go crazy complaining. LOL!
