Makeup Minis Vol.19

ABOUT MAKEUP MINI SERIES
Makeup Minis is where I feature deluxe samples I received with my online and/or in-store purchases. I’ll give you a short description of the product, my initial impression and whether I plan to purchase a full-sized version. I am only listing 3 items per volume to keep the post short and fun! :)

Cover FX Calming Primer

Calming Primer

I have to say I’m on the fence about this primer. I do love the texture — thin, lightweight, absorbs instantly. It feels more like a smoothing lotion rather than your typical silicone-y primer. It is fragrance-free but it does smell chemically, albeit faint. My skin appears somewhat smoother afterwards but it doesn’t mattify or cover any redness. In fact, I didn’t quite see any “calming” properties from this primer at all to tell you the truth. It didn’t cause any breakouts on my skin but I didn’t see it “calming” the ones I have, either.

Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara

Bobbi Brown
Smokey Eye Mascara

I’m pleasantly pleased with this mascara! I didn’t expect too much at first but then it blew me away! I like the tapered tip because it grabs those tiny lashes in the hard-to-reach inner corners really well. The formula is smooth, non-clumpy, and most importantly, does not flatten my curl (I have thin, sparse lashes and most mascaras weigh my lashes down miserably). It does not volumize my lashes as claimed but it does seem to lengthen them somewhat. The only drawback: it smudges, although just a tiny bit, later on in the day.

Possibly!

It’s Potent! Eye Cream

This eye cream really does brighten the under eye area as promised! I have been applying it 3 times a day and have noticed my dark circles (from lack of sleep) becoming less and less noticeable. I never expect a miracle from any eye cream but I have to say this one really did make a difference. The cream is lightweight, extremely moisturizing, smells divine, and sinks in immediately leaving no oiliness afterwards. Can I also mention the cute little jar?! The only minor flaw: it causes serious stinging and watering if it gets in the eyes!

Hi Jaa! Have you tried the Armani Rouge Ecstacy mascara already? I love it, maybe it works for you as well…

Hey Brenda! No I have not although I have heard great things about it! Do you have thin lashes, too? Does it weigh down the lashes?

That eye cream sounds promising, but I don’t think any eye cream should stingly badly when it gets into the eyes! The jar is cute tho!

I love the mini series! The eye cream does sound promising. My eyes are really sensitive though so I would be worried about that stinging.

Meh – shame about the ‘calming’ fail! I’m kind of always subtly on the lookout for calming stuff, since my dry/eczema/somewhat red patches could do with a bit of claming down sometimes. You know, the lower grade stuff that you don’t want to bust out the prescription goo for, but is messing with your look/makeup. ;-)

Ouch on the burning eye thing – I have a sample of some Clinique foaming cream makeup remover cleanser stuff (pink tube), and while it does an OK job at cleaning, it doesn’t really remove a lot of makeup, and if you get it in your eyes it BURNS LIKE THE FIRES OF HADES DID WHEN HADES HIMSELF LEFT THE OVEN ON WHILE HE WENT TO ANSWER THE PHONE. Never leave your cooking unattended people. Also probably avoid this Clinique cleanser… ;-)

LOL! I have come across so many cleansers that sting so I try to keep my eyes close when I wash my face. But an eye cream should not sting! How do you normally cover the redness on your face? Just a concealer?

Yep – a combination of my Collection concealer and a bit of Touche Eclat at the moment. I just have these annoying areas (quite small really) to either side of my nose on the centre of my cheeks. They’re really not that bad, but since I’m pale, they show up really badly if I put blush on – because I put blush on the higher, outer part of my cheeks, if the inner parts are red, then it kind of looks like I’ve overapplied my blush… >_< Or got a light sunburn, perhaps…
