Marc Jacobs New Nudes Sheer Lip Gel in Have We Met? Review & Swatches

After hearing so much rave about this lipstick from my blog BFF Syl since last year, I finally decided to purchase Have We Met? — a beautiful everyday peachy pink shade that you can wear any time for any occasion. It’s probably a good thing that I waited because the new “nude” packaging looks even more chic than the previous black version in my opinion!

OK, I admit. The thing that draws me to this lipstick even before the lovely shade itself is the packaging! A truly beautiful nude beige lacquered tube that just screams luxury and classic-ness (is there such word? I hope so!). I can just look at it all day. :) The cap snaps close securely with a strong magnetic closure so it is makeup bag-friendly. The shiny, silver round knob and brand’s logo embossed on the cap adds a modern, exquisite touch to the overall appearance and takes the packaging’s luxuriousness to the next level. It just feels so good every time pulling this beauty out of my bag to reapply!

Have We Met? is described as “shimmering warm pink” but it looks more of a shimmery peachy pink on my pigmented lips. It’s the kind of color that anyone can wear; a fool-proof shade that’s guaranteed to compliment any makeup look be it minimal or intense. It contains plenty of fine gold shimmer in the formula that makes your lips look full and plump upon application. There is a delicate vanilla scent that you may not even notice at all unless you sniff closely.

The formula is relatively moisturizing during wear but once the shine and color wears off, I feel my lips becoming dry just so slightly. It does not settle into fine lines in my experience but it tends to catch dry spots on the lips. I’d always wear it over a lip balm for a smoother finish and added hydration.

With gel-like texture, it glides fairly smoothly without tugging or dragging while depositing light-to-medium color payoff with a gorgeous, luminous, translucent sheen on the lips. I can certainly feel the shimmer when pressing my lips together but it’s not an uncomfortable feeling or anything. The coverage is buildable but never truly becomes fully opaque. I can always see my natural lip color peeking through and tweaking the actual color of the lipstick to more of a darker peachy pink.

Have We Met? lasts a good few hours on me which is realistic for a formula described as “sheer”, although it isn’t technically sheer like a true lip balm. Since I do not own the original formula in the old black packaging, I cannot confirm if this is a reformulated version. From the review and swatches I’ve seen online, though, it seems to be of the same quality, just the packaging that is different. If you’d like to see how it looks on paler complexion, visit Syl’s blog to see it in action!

Oh. I don’t usually like shimmer in my lipsticks, especially when you can feel it. The packaging looks gorgeous though!

It’s very pretty and sweet.. but worth the money? Hm. I’m not sure yet! I do love the package etc though.. so.. maybe.. perhaps I could lean towards a yes :P

This is a beautiful shade. I actually really wanted Have We Met Yet in the original formula because it looked like the most gorgeous natural color but somehow I never pulled the trigger. I would love this shade for myself though. It looks great on you. I love that all the brands are coming out with sheerer lippies. They are low maintenance and still provide a decent amount of color. Nice pick and gorgeous pictures as always!

It’s a pretty color but I don’t like the drying aspect or the grittiness of shimmer. I’m thinking I might be able to find something in a tinted balm that would provide a similar color.

What a sweet shade! I have to admit I got really distracted by that beautiful teal eye tho! I am a little skeptical about this showing up well enough on me, but glad to hear it’s somehow buildable :)

Yup, what Sunny said here :-) And I have yet to try anything from MJ… but I think my first purchase will be the bronzer brush!

I wasn’t sure about the teal liner when I looked at my photo post-production but I wasn’t in the mood to redo my makeup/retake my photo. ^_^” Has it ever happened to you?

        1. says: Jaa

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA it’s FRUSTRATING, isn’t it?!! I usually have problems with my falsies looking unequal on my right eye! The other thing is when I think I have blended my eyeshadows to the best/most diffused/smokiest I can and then bam! On camera it looks like a block of color, like I didn’t even bother to blend anything at all. I HATE when that happens! What about you? Ahhh this would make a good BISC question. LOL

I think my brows look worse in photo than they do in real life LOL They almost always seem darker and less natural-looking, but they aren’t that way in real life (or at least I don’t think they are…). Also, if lighter shades aren’t that flattering on me in real life, in photos they look 10 times worse!

What are you wearing on your eyes?!? I love the whole look you’ve put together, the pop of colour with the sheer pink on lips & cheeks.

    1. says: Jaa

Aww thanks, Rorie! I’m so glad you liked the look because I wasn’t sure if the liner would be too distracting! :) The liner is Nicka K New York shimmer Eyeliner in Green! I received it in one of the beauty box subscriptions eons ago. Not sure if they still have these anymore. It’s so bright and sparkly in person! :)

The texture looks wonderful from the swatch pics. Sheer lipstick with gel texture would be my current favorite when it comes to lip products, so I think I’d enjoy this a lot. However, I haven’t exactly warmed up to the brand, yet. So far I’ve only tried the eye liner, which is wonderful.
Have We Met? is an awesome color on you. It appears that you’ve found a perfect spring pink for yourself! :)

    1. says: Jaa

Hey Lena! I think you would really love this formula! It’s so easy to wear. I understand your reluctance because I was the same in the beginning! It took me a while before I bought my first makeup item from them. I love every single thing I’ve bought so far, though! Well, except for one of the cheek brushes. ;)

I don’t have lipsticks that have shimmers because I don’t like them (i feel that it makes my lips bigger IDK) but recently my husband just told me that he likes sparkles after he saw the makeup tutorial that I was watching that day LOL.

I love this shade on you! So girly!!!

  9. Such a lovely color and packaging is really chic. Like you said, I like this beige packaging much more than the black one. And… Love the green liner on inner corner, you look stunning.
I always check Marc Jacobs in France since we don’t have Sephora in Germany, it is not available here. I have to check those new lippies next time when I am there

Thanks, Sara! Yeah, I do love the nude packaging a lot more than the black one! :) I wonder why there’s no Sephora store in Germany. You’d think they would do really well there!

    1. says: Jaa

This one has a lot of shimmer in the formula so it doesn’t feel as smooth as the Dior Addict! It is more opaque than the Addict, though, but not quite as opaque as the Addict Extreme! :)

  10. says: Cindy

First of all, the teal inner corner is popping! I love blue colors on the eyes but can never get it to look good on me but this one gives me some ideas :D Also, the crispness of the lipstick bullet is pretty cool–I’m drawn to it like a moth to a fire <3

    1. says: Jaa

Blue is a little tricky for me to wear as well. I can’t just wear blue alone or it will make me look tired. Blue, reddish brown, and gray are the three colors that are difficult for me to pull off. :( I LOVE taking close-up photos of a lipstick bullet! :D It’s a required shot in all my lipstick reviews. :D

      1. says: Cindy

Gray, blue and silver just don’t do it for me x.x I love looking at them though. Love the extreme close ups…the detail is fascinating!

  11. Such a pretty colour! Funnily enough I purchased today my first Marc Jacobs item, and it was a lipstick! One of the normal range, though: Core Cora. And it’s beautiful. They just introduced Marc Jacobs on the Sephora at my hometown and I’m just holding myself to not go there before going back to Ireland and buying EVERYTHING, lol.

    1. says: Jaa

But I foresee you going back there and HOARD more MJ lipsticks!!! ;D Try the eyeliner (liquid pen or pencil) at least; they are great!

  12. says: Kimmy

I wasn’t interested in this formula, but now I am! Lol. And of course, I read through the back and forth between you and Sunny as was like #storyofmylife :-)
