Marc Jacobs Remedy Concealer Pen Review & Swatches

I'm probably not the right person you would come to ask for advice on how to deal with serious under eye circles, simply because I don't have serious under eye circles (*knocks on wood*) that need major concealing. However, I am very loyal to using a product to “brighten up” my under eye area and Marc Jacobs Remedy Concealer Pen has been my trusty, go-to product since I finished my last tube of Garnier Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller.

Touted as one of Marc's favorite products, Remedy Concealer Pen helps “erase, brighten, and correct signs of aging, dehydration, and fatigue“, thanks to the caffeine and collagen ingredients in the Remedy Complex!

It is available in 9 shades; two of which are universal for any skin tone (00 Stand Corrected and 0 Bright Idea). Mine is in 2 Wake-Up call which is a shade brighter than my skin tone. The perfect match for me would be 3 Up All Night which I would recommend if you have similar skin tone with serious dark circles. Since I don't use it to conceal anything rather than brightening, I went with Wake-Up Call instead.

There are a few things I like and don't like about the packaging. Let's start with the likes! First is it's functionality and simplicity. Open the cap, click, and apply. Doesn't get easier than that! :) There is also a strip of transparent window along the side of the pen to let you know how much you have used/left which I think is kind of neat. The slanted-tip applicator is patented palladium that glides on the sensitive skin like a dream and instantly cools on contact (I love, love, LOVE!). I prefer a metal applicator like this over a traditional brush applicator as I find it more sanitary and generally easier to clean after each use.

The part that I don't like is, ironically, also the applicator! It tends to dispense the product too much in one click. It is not a big problem by any means as I can always dab the excess on other areas of my face such as on the sides of my nose and on my chin where the skin tends to get red. While it is great that the tip provides a refreshingly cool sensation, it's almost impossible to blend the product with it. What I do is dab it on, massage a little bit with the applicator, and then use my ring finger to blend (I use a gentle tapping motion rather than rubbing to prevent cakiness and product settling into fine lines).

Now for the formula. This has a really thin, lightweight, and liquidy texture. Once you click to dispense, be careful or it could get messy! :) Now I don't know how well such thin consistency would do to cover dark circles, but for me, using it as a “brightener” rather than a “concealer”, it is the perfect formula to give me that bright-eyed effect. In the before & after photo below, you will clearly see how on the “after” side looks much more awake and refreshed. :)

The last thing I want to use on the under eye area is something thick that cakes or feels heavy. Fortunately, this pen doesn't do any of that at all. They hydrating formula blends so easily and sets rather quickly to a cake-free, skin-like finish that doesn't emphasize fine lines. It has just enough coverage that I need, but I suspect that you would need to follow with a concealer in combination with the pen to combat serious dark circles.

It lasts well, too! I did not notice any creasing or flaking at the end of the day, provided that I always set it with a powder. Though it does fade a little bit over time when my face gets a little oily — not a deal breaker since the pen is very portable and I can bring it along for easy touch-ups if I want to! :)

If you are looking for a quick pick-me-up product to incorporate into your morning makeup routine, I highly recommend this Marc Jacobs Remedy Concealer Pen. It's effortless to use, fuss-free, and provides instant brightening effect that is lasting and natural-looking. My only worry is that I would run out of the product sooner than I hope due to the excessive amount that comes out with each click! It is a pretty expensive product after all, but wow, talk about one that's totally worth it! :)

Honestly, Jaa, you and your ridiculous photography skills :-P One day I really will have to go rogue and steal them from you! *puts on mask and cloak*

I love these kinds of products, and Marc Jacobs is a line I’m really looking forward to swatching up a storm with when I’m in Dubai!

Haha it’s actually the lens, Syl! I think anyone can take such close-up shots, provided they have a good macro lens! :)

I didn’t care too much about Marc Jacobs products when they first launched at Sephora. Now I’m all over it! I wanna try so many things from the brand. Their foundation is next to try on my list!

Have fun in Dubai! When are you going?

Hey Jaa, this does look pretty promising (except for the excessive product dispensing problem)! On the one hand I like how much more hygienic it is compared with the pen type of applicator, but if SO much comes out in one go, it’s also kinda annoying!

I think I’ve found a trick that would stop the pen from dispensing too much product! You have to store the pen with the tip “up” and try to only half-press the click! :)

I like the after effect. Since I have dark circles for every reason: allergies, heredity, super thin skin with blue-green veins, lack of sleep, and a purple red halo from rubbing my eyes from allergies. Needless to say I’m a mess. I’m not sure Mr. Jacobs could handle me. Though I’m not sure anyone can. NARS concealer certainly helps!

Oh I’m sorry to hear, Erin! It must be tough having to deal with permanent dark circles. I can only imagine. :(

I don’t think this Marc Jacobs pen is going to be enough for you. It’s pretty light and thin in texture. Nars Creamy Concealer sounds like your best bet!

  4. This looks pretty great! I too don’t have under eye circles unless I get extremely sleep deprived (knocks on wood) so something like this would be perfect. I still have a LOOONG way to go to get through my current under eye concealer though but I will def keep this in mind and swatch it the next time I’m at Sephora!

      1. NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer! Never creases, isn’t too creamy or too dry, and it seems like the tube is going to last me well into my 80s!! LOL!!! I’ve had it since last April and the tub looks brand new!? I’ve used it daily! Very impressed. :)
