November 2014 Favorites

Hi everyone! How was your Thanksgiving? I hope you had a good time with your loved ones. Mine was pretty low-key and I really didn’t do anything much besides cooking a simple dish, watching TV, and sleeping in! :) It felt so good to be able to get a full 8-hour sleep for once! :)

Dior Diorskin Nude BB Creme Broad Spectrum SPF 10

November was the month I fell in love with the Dior Nude BB Creme all over again. It has a pretty good coverage for a western BB cream. One layer is enough to even out my skin tone and blur small imperfections and redness. It blends in seamlessly with my medium yellow-toned skin despite the pinkish hue in the formula. I just really love how smooth my skin looks with this BB cream on. The formula is light and creamy and does not oxidize over time. It has an all-day staying power, too, plus it keeps my face fairly matte throughout the day. The broad spectrum SPF 10 is a little on the low side but I always apply a separate sunscreen with SPF 50+ underneath anyway. I have a full review including swatches of this product on this page.

YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick in 19 Fuchsia in Rage

This is my first YSL Rouge Volupté Shine lipstick and it certainly is not going to be last! I am impressed with the formula more and more every time I wear it. Buttery creamy smooth, it literally feels like gliding melted butter on the lips! The mango scent is quite yummy, too, albeit short-lived. Fuchsia in Rage isn’t exactly the color I had hoped it to be (it looks grape purple-fuchsia in the tube but applies medium pink magenta on me) but I still like the color nonetheless. I can’t have enough pink lipsticks after all! :) The formula leaves a gorgeous shiny finish on the lips that lasts for a good few hours before the color fades into a non-drying pink stain. To see how it looks on me, follow this page.

NARS Velvet Matte Lipstick Pencil in Cruella

I have been getting a lot of compliments after I published my review of the NARS Digital Word Lip Pencil Coffret which includes a vampy red Cruella. I don’t normally wear vampy red lips so I wasn’t expecting much from the shade. However, as soon as I put Cruella on, it was a true love at first swipe! It’s the perfect red! The formula is awesome, too. Even though it has a matte finish, it still glides on the lips easily without tugging and provides an opaque coverage in one pass. The red wears so well and leaves a red stain behind once the color wears off. My lips feel just slightly drying towards the end of wear but it isn’t anything uncomfortable, only noticeable. I have a full review of the lip set including lip swatches of all 5 colors on this page.

Marc Jacobs Sky Liner 7-Piece Petites High Liner Collection

I cannot stop wearing these liners! Seriously, they are so smooth and creamy — an absolute pleasure to apply! Every single color in this set (7 colors total) is richly pigmented and you can pretty much achieve a full coverage in one stroke. The only con is that these pencils become dull easily and they can’t be sharpened to a pointy tip. All colors wear well on me and I did not experience any fading, creasing, or smudging with any of them. There are 2 exclusive shades in this set: Sunset, a golden bronze, and Midnight in Paris, a inky indigo blue, which happen to be my 2 most favorite shades from the set! Thus, I’ve been using them sparingly for fear of running out and not being able to replace them! For review and swatches of all 7 colors, refer to my review right here.

Bobbi Brown Mini Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Smokey Topaz

For the first time, my beloved Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Amethyst (review) has a rival! I seriously never thought I could love any eyeshadow stick as much as Amethyst, but the Bobbi Brown Smokey Topaz did it! It’s such a gorgeous, gorgeous taupe that looks great on its own as well as layered with powder eyeshadow. I like to smoke it on the lid as a wash color when I’m in a hurry. Sometimes I also line it along the lower lash line to add a bit of a sparkly effect to my eyes. It’s such a wearable shade that I think anyone and any skin tone can wear beautifully. The soft and creamy formula is easy to apply and wears comfortably all day. It does crease on the lids when worn alone, though, so I always apply it over an eye primer to extend the longevity. Unfortunately, Smokey Topaz is not sold individually and can only be purchased with the other 2 colors from the Mini Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick Trio set (review).

And that’s a wrap! I hope you liked my picks! Are you planning to buy anything during Cyber Monday sales? Or are you already shopped out from the Black Friday? :D

Love the YSL shade, it’s one of my favourites, mainly because I can wear it sheer or bright.
One of these days I might want to try the Dior BB cream, once I’m out of my tinted moisturizers. :)

Yay for the YSL! (the only thing I own one of here, LOL!) All this stuff is so nice – I remember loving that Bobbi Brown eyeshadow stick on you as well!

My loot is currently on its way to me… I’m wondering if maybe we should do a joint post of some kind at some point! :-D

Same here! I did good this year, though! I didn’t buy anything at all from the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals! Surprise surprise! HOWEVER, I spent WAY too much on the Tom Ford Lips & Boys lippies that launched on Monday. I think I may have bought like… 7 shades… le sigh. I have no self-control whatsoever. :((

I actually swatched the Bobbi Brown eyeshadow stick set but decided to pass, because I was getting the LM 6-piece one! That is definitely on my November favorites list, as well as Yu, Iberico, and Cruella! Oh and Bobbi Brown Black Scotch and Burberry Gold Complete Eye Palette!

I really wanted to get that Laura Mercier Caviar Stick set, too, but I already own 4 of the shades! :( What a great, great deal, though!

Wow Jaa, i love yoiur favourites! Too bad they don’t sell Laura Mercier and Nars in the Netherlands :( . I’ve just bought two new lippies, because i’ve decided to wear more lipstick. Enter Burberry Lip Mist Oxblood and Chanel Intimate! I’m hoping i’m actually going to wear them LOL!

  5. says: Jaa

Thanks, Brenda! :D Ohhhhh Burberry Oxblood! Gorgeous bold color! Please let me know how you like the formula because I’d love to try Burberry Lip Mist some day!

That’s too bad you can’t get Laura Mercier and Nars in your country (especially Nars, since they make so many beautiful colors). But then again you are probably saving $$$ because there’s nothing to tempt you! ;D

    1. says: brenda

Haha there’s plenty to tempt me (good old MAC and Guerlain, for example) but maybe it will save me a little bit of money, lol. The lip Mist is a very nice lipstick, you should try it, especially the Oxblood, it’s such a beautiful colour for the winter season!

      1. says: Jaa

I shall put it in my wish list which by the way is getting ridiculously long! LOL. Do you keep up with MAC collections? I was for a short time then I gave up. LOL!

Re: Smoky Topaz…WHY do they do that..why do they not sell amazing pieces from sets individually too!! I havent been able to find a good match for myself in the DiorSkin BB cream so havent been able to jump on that bandwagon yet:( Great picks Jaa! I bough Dragon Girl myself recently and luuuv it. Cruella is one of my sister’s favourites…Im yet to try it!

    1. says: Jaa

That’s what I heard about the Dior BB Cream. They really should make more shades since the formula is awesome! You need to try Cruella, Dee! I’m sure it will look fab on you! :D

Yup, still bummed about Smokey Topaz not being sold individually! Hence, I’ve been using mine very sparingly. Hehe.

I was wondering about the YSL lipstick. I don’t like lipsticks that are too fragrant. I was happy to hear it had a mango scent. i love that smell! The texture sounds really nice too!

    1. says: Jaa

It’s a delicious scent, Janet! :D Wish it lasted a tad big longer, though! Hope you give it a try soon! The formula is impressive! :)
