To celebrate Stila Back to School sale this week, I thought I’d share with you one of my favorite items from the brand; the long wear lip liner.
These liners come in a traditional pencil form that need to be sharpened with a separate sharpener. The pencils are thin and lightweight; they actually feel just like an everyday writing pencil. They are pigmented but what sets them apart from others lip liners is their formula. They are creamy smooth but they are not soft, not that they are hard either, just a perfect balance that will glide on your lips without dragging provided lips are moisturized beforehand. Or you can help soften them by pinching the tip with your finger to warm up the product, then apply. That should help if you experience any tugging.
I normally outline the lips first, then fill them in completely to prevent that “outlined lip look” once the color fades. Not to say that these are not long lasting because they are. I sometimes take a step further by blotting with a 1-ply tissue after application to get the color to stay put throughout the day. I’ve tried putting just a lip gloss on top, that didn’t quite last long, however, under a lipstick, my lip color did not budge.
These liners do not feather or run. They may feel a little bit drying so topping with a lip balm, or a moisturizing lip color is advised. The finish is completely matte without a hint of shimmer whatsoever.
I purchased the set (x4) a while ago at $12.97, yes, for the whole set, and yes, they were even cheaper than what they are right now on sale. But I’m not sure that kind of deals will ever come along again. But at $6 a piece, it’s still a very good deal for a high quality lip liner and you can’t really go wrong with any of the colors. I personally like Charming the most since it’s so close to my natural lip color and will not change the true tone of whatever lip color I’m putting on top. I also like Obsessed on a day I’d like a pop of color. I see Passionate being the perfect shade for a night out or on a day when you want a more formal/composed look. I find Aspiring to be too brown for my liking so I hardly reach for it. It would be nice if Stila offered more shades, maybe nude or peachy, that would be so lovely.
Overall, I think these are good quality lip liners. Creamy, pigmented, blend well, and last. What’s not to like? The price may be high for a lip liner so definitely get them while they are on sale. I’m glad I did and I’m glad they did not disappoint.
