If you have been wishing for a black eyeliner pencil that is a little less black than Perversion but a little more black than Zero, well, your wish has been granted!

Black Velvet, a warm-toned, deep black, is the first shade released from the new 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Pencil formula. It is specifically formulated to be a drier, “powdery” version of the original pencil so that you can easily smudge it to create a soft smokey eye. It has all the awesomeness of the original pencil — rich pigmentation and excellent lasting power, but with a powdery matte finish.
The pencil glides on fairly smooth without tugging or pulling and deposits intense, opaque black color in a single stroke. I love how easy it is to smudge Black Velvet for a smokey effect (I like to use my fingertip), you just have to do it quickly, because once it sets, it will not budge/transfer/smear no matter what. It is also safe to use on the waterline and I’m happy to report that it does stay put all day without giving me raccoon eyes! It may fade just ever so slightly in the heat and humidity but for the most part, it has a pretty impressive staying power.
Though one thing I noticed is, since the texture is soft and rather dry, it tends to have fallout. It’s nothing messy, maybe a few super small pieces here and there. :)

Comparison to other 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils

As you can see from the picture above, the black pigment of Black Velvet (1st line) is somewhere between Perversion (2nd line) and Zero (3rd line). It is still a really intense black, just a little lighter than Perversion and darker than Zero. It is a complete matte without any sheen (compared to Smoke; 4th line) or glitter (compared to Uzi and Oil Slick; 5th and 6th line, respectively).

Hey Jaa, thanks for the review! I think I’ll skip. Not sure about the aspect of fallout, and to be honest I still don’t think I’ll get to create a decent-looking wing with this :p
Haha you’re right, Sunny! It would be pretty difficult to create a wing with Black Velvet. Unless you wing it out with a good eyeliner brush!
This seems really intense! I am yet to try a UD pencil, and because i wear browns mostly I find my share in MAC usually! Thanks for the review might look into this, although the “fallout” part does make me skeptical, but its loos great on you!
Thank you, Divya! If you prefer MAC, you must try their Pearlglide Intense Eye Liner! They are my favorite! :)
Curse Youuuuuuu! :-P Now I need Smoke and Oil Slick too…
*tries to pull self away from beauty blogs..fails*
My mum (<3) gave me a treat and got me the new UD gel liner, which is on its way (and which I'm super excited about), so next on my UD liner list is Black Velvet! I have both Perversion (sadly mine is very hard – literally – to use) and Zero (which is my standard black pencil liner), but there is always room in my heart for another lovely UD liner :-)
I love your photo – looks like you're about to receive a message from the Gods! (pssst, tell me what they say!). You're like my idol for 'awesome lower-lash-line-looks' too!
Yay! I can’t wait to read your review on the gel liner! :D I’m pretty sure it will be super awesome! I also wonder how it compares to Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner.. do you have it? You should do a comparison post if you do! :D
LOL! I just wanted to do something a little artistic but now that you said it, it does look like I’m looking up to something above! Haha!
Thanks for the compliment on the lower lash line look! :D
I have always wanted to try UD eye pencils. They always looks so intense and creamy! And after reading this my urge to try them hasn’t changed.
Most of them are super creamy and intense, Melissa! What color are you looking to try? :)
I agree with Syl, you are always killing the lower lash line look!
Oh, thank you, Erin! You’re so sweet! <3
