I know I’m a little behind in posting this review since the palette probably isn’t available anymore but don’t worry if you missed it because this product is a total miss!
Unlike the regular 8-pan Color Icon, this new limited edition palette is a major flop. Let me elaborate…
The top row shades (glittery: silver, icy white, and pale gold) are supposed to be used for brow bone highlight but I find them to be too glittery and although you can see some pigmentation on the arm swatches, when applied on the lids there’s barely any color payoff. They are best used as a shimmer wash or on top of the eyeshadow colors to add some sparkle to the eye.
The middle row shades (satin: smokey gray, bluish purple, and medium brown) are the main eyeshadow colors. While they are somewhat more pigmented than the top row, they are not anywhere near the quality of the permanent 8-pan Color Icon. These are dry, chalky, and the colors are impossible to build. To make matter worse, they vanish as soon as you start blending! So, you really have to pack it on to get the color to show up. The medium brown performs just a tad bit better than the other two. The bluish purple is the worst performer on this row.
The bottom row shades (matte: black and dark brown) have the best color payoff but they are, however, patchy and do not blend well.
It’s such a shame because I really wanted to love this palette. The color selection is really nice and they would have made a decent neutral palette but sadly, the quality is simply not there.
So, my conclusion – stick with the 8-pan in the permanent line until Wet n Wild starts improving the quality of their limited editions. :)
