YSL just came out with the new collection of their famous glossy stains for the Fall 2013 called “Rebel Nudes“. There are a total of 10 colors in this collection ranging from basic nudes to bright, bold nudes. To test it out, I decided to purchase N°101 which is the palest nude and most transparent of the line. Gotta go for the maximum effect!
Rebel Nudes have “sheerer” texture than the original glossy stains and it’s pretty evident in the N°101. The color is sort of like a clear beige/brown nude with a slight hint of lilac iridescent – such a unique and truly beautiful color. The formula is pretty much the same as the originals – thin and watery upon initial application and becomes thicker and tackier once it sets on the lips. The packaging and applicator are also the same – square tube with gold cap and black bottom (read my detailed review of the glossy stains here, this post is meant to be just a quick update of the new collection).
Glossy stains deliver the shine of a lip gloss with the lasting power of a lip stain in one quick swipe. In this new collection, YSL uses “Euphoric Pearl Technology” to make the color look more “3D luminous” on the lips and that’s exactly what I see when I wear my N°101. The same glossy finish is still there but now with a “pearly” lilac iridescent effect as well. It is the least pigmented and most transparent of the 10 colors and in fact, that’s exactly why I bought it. I wanted just the glossiness part of the glossy stain so I can pair it with my own nude lipstick to enhance the nude color, give it intense shine, and prolong its wear time. And to my happiness, it does just that! With just 2 coats on, my lips stay mostly glossy throughout the day, no joke.
If N°101 isn’t as pigmented as you’d like, explore some other shades in the collection as some of them are bolder and brighter than the others. If I had to pick another color for my next purchase (which I likely will), it would either be N°108 Violine Out of Control or N°110 Reckless Pink. The N°110 seems like a perfect pink shade for everyday wear with a hint of coral. The N°108, though, is such a unique shade of bright iridescent purple, I’m really intrigued by it and am kinda curious how it would swatch on my lips. Next on the list on my next trip to Sephora!
